From the VMAs to New York Fashion Week and Vogue World event, Black women made an unmissable case for melanin in such a way that demanded attention. There were creative facebeats, fantastic hairdos, and enough confidence to last a lifetime, color us Black! Winning beauty looks.

At the 2023 VMAs, vocal powerhouse Ashanti reminded us why she’ll always be that girl. The multiple-award winner stunned in a subtle facebeat characterized by soft smokey eyes and understated lips. For a bit of drama, she leveraged witchy lashes that spoke volumes without asserting their dominance over the entire look—an elegant offering fitting an elegant lady.
Considering the current obsession with monochromatic makeup, we weren’t surprised to see a good number of them grace the red carpets and streets last week. Of all the renditions submitted, one of our favorites is Halle Bailey who did justice to neutral tones in such an effortless way you’d think she was born that way. Her neutral eyeshadow, blush, and lipsticks complemented her skin tone in an easy yet hard-hitting way.
