R29 Style Picks: Everything We Want To Buy In November

[ad_1]

It might not be ice cold yet, but the arrival of November does mark a significant change. While last month saw us crunching over orange leaves with our brand new autumn boots, November is where we have to get serious about the upcoming winter weather.

Gone are the days of only needing a light jacket, with each darker day taking us one step closer to the familiar bear hug of our ‘big coats’. When it comes to layering, we’re making sure we’re fully prepared, stocking up on cosy knits, sweater vests and cardigans aplenty.

For those two steps ahead, it’s also the time to start thinking about the key cold-weather essentials, including winter accessories. Will that worn-out beanie from the days of lockdowns still hold out, or it is time to treat yourself to some new, colourful headwear? Perhaps it’s also time to check if you still have both gloves to hand (how do we always end up loosing one?!).

Still, there are plenty of indoor outfits on our wish lists this month, with the rainy days marking the perfect occasion for matching loungewear, fuzzy slippers and comfy bralettes. Whatever you’re looking to shop this month, team R29 have you covered.

From knitted balaclavas to leather trench coats, here’s everything we have our eye on this November…

At Refinery29, we’re here to help you navigate this overwhelming world of stuff. All of our market picks are independently selected and curated by the editorial team. If you buy something we link to on our site, Refinery29 may earn commission.

I recently had my very thick hair cut short by The Hair Bros, so it’s a lot easier to wear this season’s most chic accessory: the claw clip. While I love the classic tortoiseshell versions, I want something a bit jazzier, and this clip by Tort fits the bill perfectly. I’ll pick out some face-framing strands to complete the look.

Tortware Toto Clip in Pink Turtle, $, available at Tortware

My winter coat is far too warm for November and my denim jacket doesn’t quite cut it, so I need something in between. This over-shirt looks very cosy and it’ll go with everything I own (mostly black!)

Zara Textured Overshirt, $, available at Zara

I saw Hailey Bieber with a canvas version of this bag but I love the fluffy look even more for winter. It’s pretty big, too, so it can hold all of my beauty must-haves (yes, you should be wearing sunscreen in the winter, especially if you’re spending time outside).

Staud Felix bouclé shoulder bag, $, available at Matches Fashion

Sadhbh O’Sullivan, Health and Living Writer
Like Jackie, I’m a sucker for a claw clip and I love this green resin number.

Yoko Yoko Hair Clip, $, available at Liberty London

If I’m being perfectly honest I’ve actually made my own one of these before but the latest Paloma Wool launch has inspired me to add to my warm headwear collection.

Paloma Wool Balaclava, $, available at Joan The Store

This really is a sign people do change – I never thought I’d be lusting after a brown shoe but I just love these.

Kleman France Brown Leather Mocassin, $, available at kleman

As winter looms, I’m always looking for ways to bring more joy into my wardrobe. These flower hoop earrings do just that!

Lisa Says Gah Florette Earrings, Silver, $, available at Lisa Says Gah

The only shoulder bag I own is a Scandinavian Airlines flight attendant bag I bought second hand. Don’t get me wrong – I love it, but it would be great to have something else in my rotation. Hvisk do dreamy bags and this green number is an especially tempting option.

HVISK Amble Nylon Recycled Bag, $, available at Hvisk

Loafers are everywhere I look and these ones by Geox look as comfy as they do cute.

Geox Bleyze Woman, $, available at Geox

Anna Jay, Art Director
Forever in pursuit of a capsule wardrobe, these straight up workwear trousers are just what I’m looking for.

Dickies Elizaville Work Pant, $, available at Dickies

Hoorah for slipper season!

TOMS Ezra Slipper, $, available at TOMS

#Influenced into booking some autumn sun, these will be perfect for seeing out the last of the sunny days in Mallorca.

bloobloom Icon in Amber, $, available at bloobloom

I can’t work out if this bralette looks super cosy because of its hot chocolate colourway or its warm waffle material. Either way, I’m ready to wear it all winter long.

Skims Waffle Henley Bra, $, available at Skims

How many pairs of black boots are too many pairs of black boots? I don’t know the answer and I don’t want to know if it means I can’t get these moody lug boots to stomp around in.

Kurt Geiger Stint boots, $, available at Kurt Geiger

Trench season can feel fleeting, but trust me when I say a leather trench can keep you warm all winter long. Offering way more protection than a cotton iteration, this chocolate dream is giving me Blade Runner meets Zoe Kravitz vibes.

Hush Leather Trench Coat, $, available at Hush

Vicky Spratt, Features Editor
I love Nick Cave and you can never have enough t-shirts. That’s all I have to say about this.

Cave Things Head High T Shirt, $, available at Cave Things

Sadly for me, I can’t afford head-to-toe Simone Rocha. However, the good news is that I can afford her accessories. I got really into embellishment that spiced up video calls during the back-to-back zooms of endless lockdowns. Now I’m hooked. This hair clip is the perfect addition to my burgeoning collection.

Simone Rocha Flower beaded crystal hair clip, $, available at Selfridges

My friend recently bought some tinted sunglasses. She says she’ll be wearing them all winter because they cheer her up. I cannot verify the science behind this claim but what I do know is that I’d very much like to go to French eyewear brand Jimmy Fairly and pick up this pair to see if she’s right.

Jimmy Fairly Black Abyss, $, available at Jimmy Fairly

Georgia Murray, Junior Fashion Editor
I’m hooked on Beyond Retro’s Reworked section, where they refresh old fabric and create new pieces from recycled vintage. This rollneck knit will see me through the season, paired with high-waisted denim and chunky-soled boots.

BEYOND RETRO LABEL High Neck Lettuce Edge Ribbed Knit, $, available at Beyond Retro

I’m going to Mexico for 10 days at the end of the month (sorry!) and have my eye on Solid & Striped’s stellar swimwear, which has just gone in the sale at Matches Fashion. Bring on the tequila sodas and fish tacos…

Solid & Striped The Jamie High-Rise Bikini Briefs, $, available at Matches Fashion

Solid & Striped The Rachel Striped Bikini Top, $, available at Matches Fashion

Good News is my favourite sneaker brand for many reasons, the first being their sustainability credentials. Every pair is made of biodegradable uppers, recycled rubber soles and organic cotton fabric. Plus, they have the retro aesthetic I look for in every pair of kicks. Will they get dirty in autumn? Maybe, but I never liked a squeaky clean trainer anyway…

Good News Organic Cotton Canvas High Top Sneakers, $, available at Net-A-Porter

Anna Jay, Art Director
I’m eyeing up this boxy basket bag from YGN Collective, a mother-daughter duo working to support women in Myanmar with constant income. Everything from this store gives back to valuable causes so it’s a win-win.

YGN Collective Handmade Woven Basket, $, available at Frankly

Enter my autumn hero of a jumper. Cute flame graphics and a nice wide sleeve, I’ll be teaming this with jeans and boots all season long.

& Other Stories Flame Colour Block Sweater, $, available at & Other Stories

I’ve dithered over many pairs of hiking style boots over the last few months. Thanks to Arket I might finally bite the bullet with these bad boys.

Arket Leather Hiking Boots, $, available at Arket

Eni Subair, Editorial Assistant
Every winter my friends rave about how useful Uniqlo’s thermal vests are so as someone who perpetually feels the cold, I’ll be popping one on under all my jumpers.

Uniqlo Heattech Jersey Crew Neck Thermal Top, $, available at Uniqlo

I’m a sucker for any sort of Matrix-style sweeping coat and this ASOS marketplace reworked beauty is my latest obsession. From the hourglass fit to the faded orange detailing, it’s certainly a sight to see. Topped off with killer platform boots, it’ll make up my AW uniform.

Vintage Reworked Vintage Faded Long Faux Leather Coat, $, available at asos marketplace

There’s never an occasion when I won’t opt to wear Western boots if I can swing it. These Mango bad boys are a visual delight and quite frankly, I’m ready to indulge. I can already predict my family totally mocking me for my foray into the Wild West, but they’re pretty used to my quirky footwear choices by now.

Mango Cowboy Leather Boots, $, available at Mango

Jazmin Kopotsha, Entertainment Editor

I bloody love a hat. I know a lot of cool people who wear hats on the regular and I would like to be one of them, please. This black fedora is a classic that, in theory, I could (and would) wear with absolutely everything.

& Other Stories Braided Felt Fedora Hat, $, available at & Other Stories

Ninety percent of my wardrobe is black, grey, dark grey or navy blue. Some call it depressing, I call it consistent. That said, I’m slowly coming around to a fun injection of colour and I adore the grandad vibe that’s emerged recently. This bobbled gem fits both briefs.

Warehouse Bobble Stitch Jumper, $, available at Warehouse

There have been too many occasions when I’ve asked someone where they bought their beautiful, easy-breezy yet smart casual dress from and the answer has been Whistles. Though I tend to shy away from floral dresses – especially in the winter – I’ve checked to make sure this one is in stock in my size about four times a day for a week now. I think it’s a sign that it should be mine.

Whistles Floral Ruffle Silk Mix Dress, $, available at Whistles

Alicia Lansom, Editorial Intern

Last year I really wanted a pair of red faux snakeskin trousers, but I chickened out and never bought any. These burgundy faux crocodile ones feel like a toned down version that I would actually get wear out of, and can be worn on both a night out or with a cosy knit. Sorted.

Topshop Faux Leather Crocodile Straight Leg Trousers, $, available at Topshop

I’ve had my eye on this coat for weeks but I wasn’t sure I could justify buying a trench when the weather is about to change. However, now that it has been added to the Uniqlo mid-season sale, I may actually end up adding it to my basket come payday.

Uniqlo Blocktech Checked Coat, $, available at Uniqlo

As a short person, I want a pair of boots to give me height, but I always find heels a pain in the arse to wear. Chunky platforms solve that problem, which is why I have had my eye on the Jadon Dr. Martens forever. Fingers crossed they get reduced sometime soon.

Dr. Martens Jadon Platform Boots, $, available at DR MARTENS

Tilly Thorns, Activation Manager

I haven’t owned a pair of winter gloves since I was a toddler and they were attached to a string in my coat, so I think it’s about time I invested in some. I’m currently on a pile buying frenzy so these will be a chic addition to my collection.

Arket Pile Mittens, $, available at Arket

Having packed all my summer shoes away for the year, it’s become quite clear I’m not equipped for winter. Thankfully Everlane is on hand to give me some good quality rain boots.

Everlane The Rain Boot, $, available at Everlane

A total mood.

Aries Unbalanced T, $, available at Aries Arise

The perfect winter dress: winter florals, corduroy, long and roomy enough for all the big meals. Plus, it goes great with a white rollneck and black boots.

Vintage Vintage 90s Maroon Paisley Floral Corduroy Dress, $, available at asos marketplace

Speaking of rollnecks, this merino wool turtleneck is ethically made and exactly the kind of yellow I want to make a staple during the dark, wintry months.

Komodo Keaton Merino Wool Jumper, $, available at Komodo

I don’t need another coat but if I were to add another to my closet, it would be this. I watched Almost Famous for the first time a couple of weeks ago (so sue me) and I finally understand the lust for coats like these.

House Of Sunny Chocolate Penny Vegan Fur And Leather Coat, $, available at House of Sunny

Laurene Mpia, Associate Production Manager

Winter advice: always have a great array of socks on tap. I usually wear dark colours with minimal detailing but I’m rebelling this season.

Falke Set Of Cotton-Blend Socks, $, available at Net-A-Porter

These clogs are my dream AW shoes! They are perfect for winter with socks (hehe) or in summer with a long midi dress. But we’re not there yet so let’s stick to the strong sock game.

Birkenstock Boston Suede Leather, $, available at Birkenstock

This is an investment that needs to happen. It’s subtle, looks like the ideal texture and the price tag ensures I’ll be keeping it for a very long time. Acne Studios sure knows how to deliver winter goods, which is a godsend in this freezing weather!

Acne Studios Oversized Fringed Scarf Dark Wine, $, available at Acne Studios
